As a company, and individuals, we believe the only thing more important than exploring this beautiful world is doing our best to preserve it for future generations. Read on to discover what we're currently doing to incorporate sustainable practices into our business.
combating deforestation
Renewable & Recycled Paper
Deforestation is a serious threat to our planet for many reasons - from loss of critical wildlife habitat to depletion of oxygen producing biomass and more. Knowing this, it wan an easy decision to commit to only using sustainably sourced paper. The benchmark in this niche are the strict standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The paper we print on not only looks great, but is certified by both of these organizations as sustainably sourced, as well as being made of 40% recycled material. We encourage you to read more about both of these great non-profits and their missions.
harnessing the sun
Solar Powered Printing
When it came time to find a printer to publish our maps, we reviewed and interviewed more than our fair share to find one that fit with our environmental vision and commitment. The effort was worth it, because we found a printer that is leading the charge in this area. They're a certified Green Printing Business through the California Green Business Network and produce roughly 75% of their electrical needs with solar installed on their own shop.
Unfilling the Landfill
It's All in the Packaging
Packaging can be the biggest problem for environmental waste because it's generally used once to protect your map during delivery, and then is discarded immediately. We didn't want to stop at just producing sustainable products, so our maps are shipped in mostly-recyclable packaging. Even our shipping labels, packing slips, package padding, and packing tape are all recyclable.
Moving forward
We're proud of the progress we've made so far, but we definitely have more work to do. We hope you'll follow along and see how we learn and grow as a company and individuals on our journey to improve our impact on this planet. We'll continuously update this page to reflect our current sustainability practices.
